Introduction
After the success of Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody, Hollywood is moving ahead with a new wave of music biopics — and the Bee Gees are next in line.
Although the group has already been featured in notable documentaries such as The Joy of the Bee Gees (2014) and How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (2020), fans are now anticipating a full dramatic retelling of their story on screen.
Title and Direction
Producers are reportedly considering naming the film after one of the band’s iconic songs. While titles like Stayin’ Alive, Night Fever, and How Can You Mend a Broken Heart were ruled out, the current working title is You Should Be Dancing. The song marked the group’s leap into disco and topped the Billboard Hot 100.
The project has gone through several creative changes. Initially, Kenneth Branagh was set to direct, with Ben Elton writing the script. Later, John Carney and then Lorene Scafaria were attached, before the screenplay transitioned to Oscar-nominated writer John Logan. In early 2024, reports confirmed that Ridley Scott — known for Alien, Blade Runner, and Gladiator — entered talks to direct. His involvement would reunite him with Logan, his collaborator on Gladiator.
Release Timeline
Early expectations suggested the film could arrive in 2024, but director shifts delayed production. Ridley Scott later revealed he temporarily stepped away due to disagreements with the studio. However, by mid-2025, it was reported that he planned to resume work in late 2025, making a potential release sometime around 2026.
Story and Production
Specific plot details remain unknown, but the film may focus on the Bee Gees’ working-class beginnings, family dynamics, and their rise to global fame. Barry Gibb, the sole surviving member, is closely involved and will serve as an executive producer.
Casting and Music
Casting has not been publicly confirmed, though Bradley Cooper was previously rumored to portray Barry Gibb. It is also unclear whether actors will perform the songs themselves or use original recordings. Likely featured tracks include You Should Be Dancing, Stayin’ Alive, Night Fever, Words, Tragedy, and How Deep Is Your Love.
For now, no trailer or official poster has been released — but excitement continues to build.
