Introduction
One of the most remarkable moments of Donny Osmond’s popular Las Vegas residency is his performance of “Puppy Love.” But it’s not just the song itself; it’s how the 67-year-old icon turns it into a mesmerizing duet with his 14-year-old self.
In a video he shared on July 28, Osmond explained the impressive technology behind this feat. During an interview with Good Day New York, he revealed that with the help of AI, he performs alongside a hologram of his younger self. “That is my grandson, my 14-year-old grandson, Daxton,” Osmond said. “We shot this in New York in January… It’s his body, but my face and my voice.”
Osmond further explained that they used old audio samples from his teenage years to map his face and voice onto his grandson’s body, creating a composite that looks and sounds exactly like the 1972 teen star. That year, Osmond’s cover of Paul Anka’s hit reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the most famous songs of his career.
Reflecting on the experience, Osmond expressed a sense of wonder. “If you could go back in time, 53 years [ago] and talk to your 14-year-old self, would you do it?” he asked. “Cause I do it five nights a week. We sing ‘Puppy Love’ together, and it’s the coolest feeling, looking at myself, 53 years ago, and talking with and singing with my 14-year-old self!”
The show, a “dynamic, energy-filled musical journey,” has been so successful that Harrah’s Showroom at Harrah’s Las Vegas recently announced the residency would be extended through November 15.
