Introduction
Miami Beach, Florida – Maurice Gibb, the talented and versatile member of the legendary Bee Gees, has passed away at the age of 53. He died early this morning at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach following a sudden collapse at his home and emergency surgery to correct a twisted intestine.
According to hospital sources, Gibb was rushed to the hospital after experiencing intense abdominal pain caused by a bowel obstruction due to a volvulus—a twisted section of his intestine. He suffered cardiac arrest prior to surgery, and although he briefly showed signs of recovery, he unfortunately died shortly after the operation.
Maurice’s family—including his wife Yvonne, children Adam and Samantha, as well as his brothers Barry and Robin—were by his side as he passed away at 1 a.m. local time. In a statement, the Gibb family expressed their profound sorrow: “His love and energy remain an inspiration to all of us. We will deeply miss him.”
A dominant yet often understated force within the Bee Gees, Maurice was celebrated not only for his musical skill—spanning keyboard, bass, guitar, and vocals—but also for his supportive presence that helped anchor the trio’s creative synergy.
His untimely death leaves a profound void in the world of pop music. The Bee Gees—comprised of Maurice and his brothers Barry and Robin—endured as one of the most successful musical acts of the 20th century, with timeless hits such as Stayin’ Alive, How Deep Is Your Love, and Tragedy.
Tributes have begun pouring in from fans and fellow musicians alike, remembering Maurice as a gifted songwriter and the “quiet heartbeat” of the group. In the coming days, the family will announce further details regarding funeral arrangements and public tributes.
