Introduction

In the rolling hills of Boerne, Texas, a powerful story of friendship, vision, and purpose unfolded—far beyond what headlines ever captured. At the heart of it were two men: country music icon George Strait, and visionary businessman Tom Cusick. Their bond went deeper than business. It was about building something meaningful, something lasting—not just in stone, but in spirit.
In 2011, the Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort was crumbling, both structurally and financially. Most would have called it a lost cause. But George and Tom saw more than broken walls and empty rooms—they saw opportunity. Not for profit, but for legacy. Instead of turning away, they leaned in. They bought the property and began rebuilding it from the ground up, investing time, care, and heart.
But the story didn’t stop with bricks and beams. That same year, their partnership gave birth to something even more powerful: the Vaqueros del Mar Invitational Golf Tournament & Benefit Concert. A unique fusion of country music and charity, this annual event was created to support wounded military veterans through Feherty’s Troops First Foundation.
Since then, from the heart of Texas, George and Tom’s mission has raised millions of dollars, quietly but powerfully honoring the sacrifices of American heroes. Their efforts have helped provide care, support, and dignity to those who served—and in doing so, they’ve built more than a resort.
They’ve built a legacy rooted in friendship, service, and the unshakable belief that giving back is the greatest reward of all.
