Introduction
The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, titled “Michael,” has had its release date postponed. While it was initially slated for April 18, 2025, and then October 3, 2025, it is now expected to be released sometime in 2026, possibly after April 1st, 2026.
This delay is due to a few factors:
- Reshoots and script revisions: Reports indicate that extensive reshoots are necessary, partly due to legal concerns regarding a clause in a prior settlement related to one of Michael Jackson’s accusers. The initial script reportedly included content that was legally prohibited from dramatization.
- Potential two-part release: The film has a significant amount of footage (reportedly 3.5 to 4 hours), leading Lionsgate to consider splitting it into two parts. This would naturally extend the production and release timeline.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has stated they will announce a definitive release strategy and timing in the coming weeks. The film stars Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the titular role, and is directed by Antoine Fuqua.
