Introduction
David Lynch and Michael Jackson had a surprising but memorable collaboration in 1991 when Lynch directed a teaser trailer for Jackson’s “Dangerous” album. This partnership was born out of Michael Jackson’s admiration for Lynch’s work, particularly his 1980 film “The Elephant Man.”
During the production of the “Dangerous” teaser, David Lynch reportedly expressed his astonishment at the amount of time Michael Jackson spent in makeup. In an interview, Lynch recalled Jackson being in makeup for “eight or ten hours,” exclaiming, “How could someone be in makeup for ten hours? It’s someone very critical about their looks.”
This comment highlights Jackson’s meticulous attention to his appearance and image, even for a short promotional piece. Despite the extensive makeup process, Lynch found Jackson to be a “really nice guy” and noted that when they finally met, all Jackson wanted to do was discuss “The Elephant Man,” a film he clearly felt a deep connection to.
