Reports circulating on YouTube channels claim that Elvis Presley’s attic at Graceland was opened after 48 years and revealed something “shocking.” These videos use sensationalized titles to attract viewers.
However, based on information from Graceland archivists, the attic at Graceland has been accessible and its contents moved to archives. An on-site archivist, Angie Marchese, has stated that the attic contained items like:
- Gladys Presley’s (Elvis’s mother) belongings
- Elvis’s army items
- Some of Lisa Marie Presley’s baby clothes
- Old furnishings and drapes
The upstairs area of Graceland, including Elvis’s bedroom and bathroom, remains off-limits to the public out of respect for the family and to preserve it as it was when Elvis lived there. Only a very select few individuals, usually close family or those with special permission (like the archivist), have been allowed access to this private area.
The “shocking” revelation often hinted at in these clickbait videos appears to be a manufactured mystery rather than a verifiable discovery. The actual contents of the attic, while personal and historical, are not a shocking secret but rather a collection of family items that have since been cataloged and preserved by Graceland’s archives.
